NAKURU, Kenya — October 29, 2026

A senior police officer based in Nakuru County has been charged with allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in a case dating back to June 2022.

Police Inspector Joseph Kipsang Ruto, the deputy Officer Commanding Menengai Police Station in Rongai Sub-County, appeared before the Nakuru Principal Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 28, where he denied the charges.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the officer faces a charge of defilement and a separate charge of committing an indecent act with a child. The alleged incident occurred in the Mang’u area of Rongai in June 2022.

Officer Denies Charges

During the court appearance, Kipsang’s lawyer asked the court to release him on reasonable bond terms, arguing that his client had cooperated with investigators since the matter was reported.

The defence also told the court that the officer had a known residence, was nearing retirement and was recovering from a hip replacement.

The prosecution did not oppose the bond application.

The court subsequently released the officer on a bond of KSh100,000, with a surety of a similar amount.

Court Issues Conditions

As part of the release terms, the court directed the accused not to contact the complainant or any prosecution witnesses while the case is pending.

The charges followed a review of the investigations file by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

In a letter dated October 6 and filed in court, the prosecution indicated that it had found sufficient evidence to support the charges under the Sexual Offences Act.

The charges remain allegations, and the accused has denied them. The court will determine the case through the judicial process.

Case Set for Mention in November

The court scheduled the matter for mention on November 12, 2026.

The proceedings will continue as the court considers the case in accordance with the law.
