NAIROBI, Kenya — October 27, 2026

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced October 30, 2026, as the deadline for politicians and other aspirants seeking to join the Linda Mwananchi Movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna issued the warning as the political outfit steps up preparations to formalise its political identity and expand its presence across the country.

According to a report by Tuko.co.ke published on Tuesday, October 27, Sifuna said those who fail to join the movement by Friday’s deadline risk missing the opportunity to be part of the formation.

The announcement was communicated alongside a video featuring excerpts from Sifuna’s previous political speeches, shared by Linda Mwananchi’s public relations and communications strategist, Abigael Gikonyo.

The deadline comes as political parties and leaders continue organising themselves ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Sifuna Warns Politicians Who Are Yet to Join

In his remarks, Sifuna addressed political aspirants who have expressed interest in joining the movement but have not yet committed themselves.

He specifically referred to a Member of Parliament from Webuye East who had reportedly contacted him seeking more time before making a decision.

Sifuna said the movement would not keep its doors open indefinitely, reiterating that October 30 would be the final date for those interested in joining.

The senator also defended the movement’s broader political objectives, saying it was seeking to change the country’s direction rather than simply secure leadership positions.

He invoked the political legacy of the late former ODM leader Raila Odinga and said the movement would continue pursuing its stated objectives despite political pressure.

His remarks underline the importance the movement is placing on building its political structure before the next general election.

Linda Mwananchi Plans Official Party Launch

The October 30 deadline coincides with the planned launch of the political outfit associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

According to Tuko.co.ke, Gikonyo indicated that membership registration numbers would serve as entry tickets to the launch event.

The launch is part of efforts to establish a formal political platform through which the movement can organise its supporters and aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.

The formation has been associated with Sifuna and several other political figures who have participated in its activities and public meetings.

Its organisers have been working to establish the movement’s identity and political structures as competition ahead of the next election cycle gathers momentum.

Kwale Rally Scheduled for October 31

Following the planned launch, the movement is scheduled to hold a rally in Kwale County on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The planned meeting is part of its wider grassroots mobilisation efforts aimed at reaching supporters beyond Nairobi and other areas where it has previously held public gatherings.

The movement has also indicated its intention to expand its presence across Kenya’s 47 counties before engaging other opposition leaders on a possible joint political strategy.

The Kwale event is expected to provide another opportunity for the movement to engage supporters and communicate its political agenda.

However, the rally’s planned date should not be confused with the membership deadline: October 30 is the date Sifuna announced for joining the movement, while the Kwale gathering is scheduled for the following day.

What the Deadline Means for the 2027 Elections

The announcement comes as political leaders and prospective candidates prepare for the next general election.

For politicians considering the movement, the deadline creates a short window to decide whether to align themselves with its political platform.

The development also highlights the importance of party organisation, candidate recruitment and grassroots mobilisation as political formations prepare for the election period.

Sifuna has declared his intention to contest the presidency in 2027 under the Linda Mwananchi political banner.

The movement’s longer-term position within the opposition, including how it might work with other political leaders, remains part of the broader political discussions ahead of the election.

For now, the immediate focus is on the October 30 deadline, the planned party launch and the subsequent rally in Kwale.
