Uhuru Kenyatta Issues Warning to Kenyans Over Fake Accounts Impersonating His Family

Share

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s office has warned Kenyans against social media accounts falsely claiming to represent him, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and their children.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, the Office of the Fourth President clarified that it operates only two official social media accounts and urged members of the public to ignore other profiles purporting to speak on behalf of the former First Family.

The warning comes amid concerns over online impersonation, where fake accounts can mislead members of the public by sharing unauthorised statements or falsely claiming to represent prominent individuals.

Uhuru’s Office Identifies Its Official Accounts

According to the statement, the office operates official accounts on Facebook and X under the username @4thPresidentKE.

The office identified its Facebook page as the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya and its X account as the Office of the 4th President of Kenya.

It also clarified that Uhuru, Margaret and their children do not operate personal social media accounts, asking Kenyans to rely on the official platforms for authentic information.

The announcement is intended to help the public distinguish genuine communications from accounts that may be using the family’s names or identities without authorisation.

Why Kenyans Have Been Asked to Be Careful

Fake social media profiles can be used to spread misleading information, circulate fabricated announcements or persuade followers to send money under false pretences.

Accounts impersonating public figures may also attract followers by using familiar names, photographs and claims of exclusive access.

The former president’s office has therefore urged Kenyans to exercise caution and disregard profiles claiming to represent members of the family outside the two official platforms.

Members of the public should verify account details before sharing statements attributed to the former president or acting on requests received through social media.

Uhuru’s Previous Social Media Accounts

During his presidency, Uhuru Kenyatta maintained a prominent personal presence on social media, where official statements and messages were shared with the public.

His previous accounts were deactivated in March 2019 following concerns about unauthorised access, according to historical statements from his office at the time.

After leaving office in 2022, he returned to social media through accounts representing the Office of the Fourth President of Kenya.

The current clarification reinforces the distinction between those official platforms and other accounts claiming to speak for him or his family.

What Kenyans Should Do

Kenyans are advised to check the identity and username of an account before trusting or sharing information attributed to Uhuru Kenyatta or his family.

They should avoid sending money or sharing sensitive personal information with unverified profiles, even when those accounts use familiar photographs or names.

Anyone who encounters a suspicious account can report it through the relevant social media platform.

The office has urged the public to rely on its official Facebook and X accounts for authentic updates.
