Job Objective

The Departmental Technician will provide technical and practical support for Culinary Arts and Hospitality training while helping ensure effective management of kitchens, restaurants and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will:

Provide shift-based technical support in kitchens and restaurants.
Assist with food preparation, supervision, cleaning and equipment management.
Promote food safety, hygiene and occupational health and safety standards.
Monitor ingredients, equipment and other departmental resources.
Record issues, returns, damages and wastage.
Assist with receiving, storing and preparing ingredients and utensils.
Conduct routine checks on kitchen equipment and facilities.
Report faults, damage and maintenance requirements.
Operate and maintain kitchen, food production and restaurant equipment.
Prepare kitchens, restaurants, equipment and ingredients for practical sessions.
Support lecturers and instructors during demonstrations, practical sessions and assessments.
Ensure kitchens and restaurants are clean, safe and ready for service.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

A Diploma in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Food Production, Food and Beverage Management or a related field from a recognized institution.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and occupational health and safety.
Knowledge of proper handling of kitchen equipment and materials.
Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Relevant practical experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or hospitality training institution is an added advantage.

Professional certification or specialized training in food production, culinary arts or food safety is also an advantage.
